Cross River Workers to End Warning Strike, Await Further Negotiations on Minimum Wage

The Organised Labour has instructed state civil servants to resume work on Wednesday following a successful two-day warning strike.

This industrial action was initiated to press the government for the implementation of the new minimum wage, a critical issue reflecting the ongoing struggle for fair compensation and workers' rights in Nigeria.

The strike, which took place from Sunday midnight, November 24, to Tuesday, November 26, saw widespread participation from the workforce. Monday Ogbodum, the state Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, expressed gratitude towards the workers for their "total compliance" and resilience despite challenging working conditions.

He emphasized, “This demonstrates our collective resolve to ensure that our workers get their due.”

Negotiations between the State Government and labour representatives had previously broken down, leading to the strike. However, talks are set to resume on Thursday, indicating a continued effort to resolve the wage dispute.
