The Ogun State High Court and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) issued orders restricting the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests to four specific locations within Ogun State.
The protests, which are part of a nationwide movement against perceived bad governance and economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu's administration, have been limited to the following venues:
1. **MKO Stadium, Abeokuta**
2. **Ansar-ud-Deen Comprehensive High School, Ota**
3. **Remo Divisional High School, Sagamu**
4. **Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode**
Justice Olugboyega Ogunfowora of the Ogun State High Court granted the application moved by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN).
The court's decision aims to ensure that the protests are conducted safely and without infringing on the rights of non-protesting members of the public. The protests are restricted to the hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from August 1 to August 10, 2024.
The court also directed the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, to enforce the order, ensuring that the protests remain within the specified locations and time frame.
This measure is intended to provide adequate protection for the protesters while maintaining public order.
The restrictions come amid heightened tensions and widespread frustration over Nigeria's worsening economic conditions and high cost of living. Hundreds of police officers have been deployed to maintain order and prevent potential violence during the protests.
