The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved its judgment in a high-stakes case involving the Rivers State government and the Federal High Court's previous ruling.
The case, brought forward by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, challenges an October 30 decision by Justice Joyce AbdulMalik that halted the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing monthly allocations to the state.
The controversy began when Justice AbdulMalik found fault with Governor Fubara for presenting the 2024 budget to a four-member Rivers State House of Assembly, which she deemed unconstitutional.
This led to an injunction preventing the CBN, along with the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank, from disbursing funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Accounts to Rivers State.
During the recent proceedings, a special three-judge panel, headed by Justice Hamma Barka, heard arguments from all involved parties. Governor Fubara's appeal seeks to overturn the lower court's decision and restore the state's access to its financial allocations.
