The Federal High Court in Lagos, under the stewardship of Justice Deinde Dipeoplu, has decreed the final forfeiture of a warehouse and 54 general-purpose steel containers.
These assets, located in Magboro, Ogun State, have been linked to Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) spearheaded the forfeiture proceedings after no individual or organization stepped forward to claim ownership of the properties.
The court's decision was grounded in the legal provisions of Section 44(2)(B) of the Nigerian Constitution (1999, as amended) and Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act (2006).
Justice Dipeolu, while delivering the judgment, stated, "The assets in question are reasonably suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities."
This ruling is part of broader efforts by Nigerian authorities to tackle financial misconduct and reclaim assets associated with corruption.
The EFCC's counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), emphasized the importance of this legal action, noting that it reflects the agency's commitment to enforcing anti-corruption laws. "We are determined to ensure that all ill-gotten gains are returned to the federal government," Oyedepo remarked during the court proceedings.
