An Ikeja High Court has adjourned the defamation case involving lawyer Femi Falana and his son, Folarin, known as Falz, against the social media activist Vincent Otse, popularly referred to as Very Dark Man (VDM).
The court has set January 23, 2025, as the new date for hearing the preliminary objections. This decision followed a session where the claimants' counsel, Muiz Banire, informed the court that the originating process had been filed and served to the parties involved.
However, Justice Matthias Dawodu noted that the originating process was not present before the court, prompting Mr. Banire to request an adjournment to file necessary administrative processes.
In response, VDM's counsel, Marvin Omorogbe, pointed out the absence of a valid writ of summons before the court, arguing that the writ bore the same suit number as previous preemptive remedy proceedings.
He emphasized the need for a fresh writ with a new suit number. Consequently, Justice Dawodu agreed to provide a date for hearing the preliminary objections, acknowledging the procedural issues at hand.
