Yakubu Dogara, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, took aim at Senator Ali Ndume over his persistent criticism of President Bola Tinubu's administration.
The focal point of this controversy is the executive's Tax Reform Bills, which have sparked significant opposition from Ndume and other northern stakeholders, including governors. Dogara challenged Ndume's approach, emphasizing that true intelligence is demonstrated through the ability to offer solutions to national issues rather than merely engaging in public criticism or boasting academic credentials.
"Intelligence is not about going to TV Stations to be telling us the schools you went and grades you had," Dogara remarked. "Intelligence is about providing solutions, otherwise, you’re just a mere content creator."
The debate has shown a broader tension between government policy initiatives and regional interests. While some senators have aligned with Ndume's criticisms, others question the validity of his objections.
Dogara defended Tinubu's decision to establish a livestock ministry, arguing that it could significantly benefit the northern region by reducing its reliance on VAT revenues from other states.
"No northern leader will ever do what Tinubu has done by creating a livestock ministry for the north," Dogara stated, suggesting that if implemented correctly, such measures could foster greater economic independence for the region.
