A 59-year-old grandmother from Canada, DonnaJean Wilde has set a new Guinness World Record by completing 1,575 pushups in one hour. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 1,207 pushups for women, as announced by Guinness last week.
Wilde's accomplishment is not her first foray into world records. Earlier this year, she also held the record for the longest time in an abdominal plank position, maintaining the pose for an impressive four hours, 30 minutes and 11 seconds.
The guidelines for the pushup record were stringent. According to Guinness World Records, Wilde's pushups required her elbows to reach a 90-degree angle and she was prohibited from bending her knees or waist. Despite these challenges, Wilde was permitted to take breaks as needed during the attempt. Reflecting on her experience, Wilde expressed, "I had to fight back the happy tears and emotions and keep going," adding that she "felt quite strong."
A video capturing Wilde's record-breaking effort includes a heartwarming moment when, after about 40 minutes, someone in the background encourages her with a shout of, “Go grandma!” Following her success, Wilde shared her philosophy: “Make time to do the things that you love, so you can make things happen and write your own story.”
