The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released a video claiming responsibility for an attack on Garin Kukawa.
The video, which is narrated in Arabic, showcases scenes of mobilization and the assault itself, featuring hundreds of motorbikes and a Suicide Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (SVBIED).
ISWAP portrays the operation as a victory under their so-called "Borno Province," highlighting two SVBIED drivers as martyrs. However, the Nigerian military has strongly refuted these claims.
According to a statement from the troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), the attack was successfully repelled.
A security analyst specializing in counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, noted that "several insurgents were neutralized during the operation and their logistics were significantly degraded."
Makama further explained that the video release is part of ISWAP's strategy to use propaganda to project strength, even when faced with defeat. "After failed offensives, the group often disperses its fighters into smaller groups, retreating to camps for regrouping and reinforcements," he added.
