Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has firmly denied allegations of giving money to human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, rapper Falz, to secure a presidential pardon.
This statement comes in response to a leaked audio recording that suggested Bobrisky paid N10 million for their assistance in obtaining a pardon during his imprisonment earlier this year.
Bobrisky took to Instagram to clarify his stance, stating, "I didn’t give Falz or his dad any money for pardon. As a matter of fact, no penny was given to them." He emphasized that the person responsible for publishing the audio online should be held accountable for its content.
The controversy began when social media influencer Martins 'VDM' Otse released an audio clip in September, allegedly featuring Bobrisky recounting how the Falanas demanded money for a pardon. However, Bobrisky has consistently denied these claims, asserting that he did not make any defamatory statements about the Falanas.
In response to the allegations, Mr. Falana and Falz issued a cease-and-desist letter, demanding a public retraction and apology from Bobrisky. They warned that failure to comply would result in legal action. Meanwhile, Bobrisky maintains his innocence, urging those who feel defamed to hold the publisher of the audio responsible.
The Lagos State High Court has also intervened, ordering VDM to remove defamatory content targeting the Falanas from his social media platforms. The court's decision followed a preliminary application by Mr. Falana to prevent further defamation.
This ongoing saga has sparked widespread attention, with investigations launched by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) into related bribery allegations. Bobrisky, who served a six-month sentence for Naira abuse, continues to deny any wrongdoing in connection with the leaked audio recordings.
