The Federal Government's investigative panelq has exonerated Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, from allegations of evading her jail term.
These accusations were initially brought forward by activist VeryDarkMan, who claimed that Bobrisky had served her sentence in a lodge rather than at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, purportedly due to influence from a powerful godfather.
Bobrisky was sentenced on April 12, 2024, for naira mutilation and subsequently released on August 5, 2024, after serving her term with standard remission.
In response to these serious allegations, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ordered a comprehensive investigation. This led to the establishment of an investigative panel chaired by Magdalena Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, tasked with probing potential corruption and misconduct within the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The panel's phase one report, presented by Dr. Uju Agomoh, Executive Director of Prisoners' Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), concluded that there was "no evidence" to support the claims that Bobrisky spent any part of her six-month prison sentence outside the Kirikiri facility.
Dr. Agomoh stated, "The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested that Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial centre during the period of his imprisonment."
