Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has made a significant appearance at the national assembly today, September 30, 2024. Dressed in traditional attire, he arrived to testify before the house of representatives joint committee on financial crimes and reformatory institutions.
This testimony is part of an ongoing investigation into bribery allegations involving officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Haliru Nababa, the controller-general of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
VeryDarkMan, accompanied by his lawyer Deji Adeyanju, is set to provide crucial evidence against Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. He had previously shared an audio recording in which Bobrisky claimed to have bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against her. The recording also implicated Nababa, suggesting that Bobrisky's "godfather" and Nababa ensured she served her six-month sentence for abusing the naira in a private apartment rather than in prison.
The hearing saw the presence of Michael Nzekwe, representing Ola Olukoyode, the chairman of the EFCC, and Haliru Nababa himself. Although Bobrisky had not yet arrived, her lawyer Avwerosuoghene Omuvwie was present in the chamber.
The lower legislative chamber had resolved on Thursday to probe these serious allegations against the anti-graft agency and the NCoS, marking a pivotal moment in the fight against corruption within Nigeria's justice system.
