Bayern Munich fans recently displayed offensive banners targeting PSG's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi during a UEFA Champions League match on November 26, 2024 against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
The banners included a crossed-out portrait of Al-Khelaifi and messages questioning his multiple roles, such as "Minister, club owner, TV rights holder, UEFA EXCO member & ECA chairman all in one." Some fans also sang derogatory chants about PSG after Bayern secured a 1-0 victory.
In response, Bayern Munich issued an apology to PSG on November 27, 2024. The club stated, "FC Bayern would like to apologise when its opponents and their representatives in its stadium feel personally attacked in this manner and tone and are offended as a result."
They clarified that the banners were not authorized by the club and did not reflect its stance, emphasizing that such actions were inconsistent with the respectful relationship Bayern maintains with its international partners.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who became PSG's president in 2011 following the club's acquisition by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), is also the chairman of beIN Media Group and has held influential positions within European football organizations. His various roles have often been scrutinized for potential conflicts of interest. Despite the incident, Bayern Munich reiterated their commitment to maintaining a good and long-standing relationship with PSG.
