Bay FC Retain Nigerian Star Asisat Oshoala for New Season

Bay FC has announced the retention of Nigeria's Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, for the upcoming 2025 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) season.

The announcement was made on Saturday morning, confirming that Oshoala is among the 25 players retained by the club.

Oshoala, who joined Bay FC from Spanish giants FC Barcelona Feminine in January 2024, played a pivotal role in the team's inaugural season. Her inclusion in the roster underscores her importance to the squad as they prepare for their second season in the league.

The 30-year-old forward's experience and skill have been instrumental in Bay FC's successful debut campaign, which saw them become only the second expansion team to qualify for the postseason in their first year, following San Diego Wave FC's achievement in 2022.

Bay FC's inaugural season concluded with a record of 11 wins, 14 losses, and one draw, securing seventh place in the league standings with 34 points.

The team set several records for an expansion club, including the most regular season and road wins. "This has been a record-breaking season of firsts for our club both on and off the pitch," said Bay FC CEO Brady Stewart.

"Our football and business offices have worked side-by-side to build a world-class club." The club's commitment to building a strong team is evident in its roster, which includes NWSL veterans, international signings, and players with ties to the Bay Area.

Notable players alongside Oshoala include Racheal Kundananji, who joined in a record-setting transfer from Madrid CFF, and Abby Dahlkemper, a 2019 Women’s World Cup Champion.

Bay FC's impact extends beyond the pitch, with significant community engagement throughout the Bay Area.

The club hosted over 75 community organizations at home matches, providing access to the sport for 5,000 community members.

They also led the league in merchandise sales and secured nearly 10,000 season ticket members for their inaugural campaign.

Looking ahead, Bay FC plans to construct a state-of-the-art training facility on San Francisco’s Treasure Island, aiming to break ground in 2025.

This facility will be one of the few purpose-built training grounds for women’s sports in the United States, marking a significant step in the club's ambition to become a global franchise.
