Bashir Ahmad Calls for Tighter Regulations and Monitoring on TikTok Amid Growing Concerns

Esther

Former Presidential aide Bashir Ahmad in a recent post shared on X has raised major concerns about the impact of TikTok in Nigeria.

Ahmad's primary argument is that TikTok is causing more harm than good to the country, necessitating stricter regulations and enhanced content monitoring by the Federal government.

Ahmad highlighted the alarming trend of criminals, including bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists, utilizing TikTok to interact with the public. He noted that these individuals are not only using the platform to communicate but also to engage in live conversations where they defend their heinous activities.

According to Ahmad, "It is alarming that TikTok, a global social media platform, is being utilized by criminals such as bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists in Nigeria to interact with the public and, in some cases, even engage in live conversations defending their heinous activities."

The misuse of TikTok by these dangerous individuals amplifies their voices and emboldens them by providing a space to spread their propaganda and misinformation.

Ahmad emphasized that this misuse is detrimental to the country, stating, "The platform is causing more harm than good to our country, as it not only amplifies the voices of these criminals but also emboldens them by providing a space to spread their propaganda and misinformation."

Given these concerns, Ahmad called on the Federal government to implement stricter regulations and content monitoring on TikTok to prevent its exploitation for malicious agendas. He argued that without such measures, the platform would continue to be a tool for criminals to further their harmful activities.
