F.Adenike

The Oreke-Okegbo community in Kwara State, Nigeria, was violently disturbed on October 12 by a terrible attack carried out by merciless bandits, causing chaos in the center of the Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The assailants, including a woman, were reportedly dressed in military uniforms when they invaded the area around 7:00 p.m. This brazen assault resulted in one person being killed and another injured.

According to local sources, the bandits targeted guards who were protecting Chinese nationals in the region. Oba Joseph Sunday Afolabi, the Kabiyesi of Oreke, confirmed the incident, stating, "One person was shot and injured, while one other was killed."

He further noted that the attackers spoke the Hausa language and speculated that they might be foreign nationals from neighboring countries.

The bandits' escape was temporarily thwarted as they became stranded at the Awere River after Babanla town due to high water levels, delaying their departure until the following morning.

In response to the attack, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, assured the public that investigations are underway to verify the details of the incident.

She emphasized, "All security measures have been emplaced to protect the lives and properties of Kwarans."
