Gunmen suspected to be bandits have once again targeted the region, abducting 16 individuals from Bena village and its surrounding areas in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
The victims were reportedly ambushed while working on their guinea corn farms, a critical time for local agriculture.
Lawali Umar, the Secretary of the Security Committee in Wasagu, confirmed the incident, stating, "The bandits ambushed victims working on their guinea corn farms and took them hostage."
This attack follows a recent raid in the Tudun Wada area, where six people were kidnapped but later rescued by army personnel after a gunfight with the assailants.
While some of the 16 initially kidnapped have managed to escape, approximately nine remain in captivity, with the kidnappers demanding an undisclosed ransom.
Umar has urged the Kebbi State Government to bolster security in vulnerable areas, particularly Yar Maitaba, Mai Rai Rai, and Tungar Sabo, which he identified as strongholds for the bandits.
"We commend the state government’s efforts against banditry, but with the guinea corn harvest season upon us, our farmers need better security," he appealed.
