A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a stern warning to legislators across the country.
Gunat cautioned against endorsing Abdullahi Ganduje as the party's National Chairman, highlighting significant regional tensions within the APC.
Gunat, who was involved in coordinating support for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign, emphasized that backing Ganduje would be seen as a betrayal to the North Central region.
This area has been actively seeking to reclaim the chairmanship position following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, who also hailed from the North Central. Gunat stated, "That position has been constitutionally agreed by the party to be for the North Central which has contributed greatly towards the progress of APC."
He further alleged that Ganduje is attempting to garner support from both former and current legislators to keep the chairmanship within the North-West, where Ganduje is from.
Gunat disputed the credit attributed to Ganduje for the APC's victories in the Edo and Ondo governorship elections, asserting that the success was due to the party's reputation rather than Ganduje's influence.
"The people voted for the party because of their belief and trust in the party and not because of Ganduje who could not deliver his home state of Kano to the APC," he remarked.
Gunat called on President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders to urgently convene a National Executive Council meeting to address these leadership concerns.
He warned that failure to do so could exacerbate feelings of marginalization within the North Central region, potentially threatening the party's unity and success in the upcoming 2027 elections.
"Convene the meeting to address that vital issue is key to the party’s unity and success towards the 2027 election," he urged.
