Another Labour Party Representative Joins APC

Ajang Alfred Iliya, a member of the Labour Party (LP) representing the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This development was announced by Speaker Tajudeen Abass during a session of the House of Representatives.

The defection of Iliya marks the latest in a series of departures from the Labour Party, highlighting ongoing instability within its ranks. Just two days prior, Daniel Chollom, another LP representative, also switched allegiance to the APC. Chollom cited "the Labour Party’s leadership crisis and a desire to support the President in national development" as his reasons for leaving.

Speaker Abass informed the House of Iliya's decision through a letter, which emphasized the growing trend of LP members seeking alignment with the ruling party. This wave of defections includes four other representatives who made similar moves about a week ago.

These political realignments are seen as part of broader efforts by the APC to consolidate power and strengthen its influence across Nigeria. The party recently inaugurated its Imo State Youth League chapter, further indicating its strategic expansion.

The shifting allegiances within the House of Representatives reflect deeper challenges facing the Labour Party, as it grapples with internal discord and questions about its future direction. Meanwhile, the political landscape remains dynamic, with criticism directed at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by a former APC presidential aspirant, adding to the complexity of Nigeria's governance environment.
