A cargo aircraft operated by Allied Air experienced a dramatic crash landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja on Wednesday.
The incident, attributed to a failure in one of the aircraft's landing gears, resulted in no casualties among the six crew members aboard. Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert in the Lake Chad Basin, shared details of the event on his X handle, confirming that all crew members were safely evacuated and are currently undergoing medical evaluations at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit.
"Emergency responders acted swiftly to secure the crash site," Makama noted, highlighting the coordinated efforts under the supervision of the Military Airport Commandant and other relevant agencies.
The crash led to the temporary closure of the airport's runway, causing delays for both inbound and outbound flights.
Passengers and airlines have been advised to anticipate disruptions until further notice. Efforts are underway by airport authorities and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to remove the disabled aircraft and inspect the runway for potential damage.
Officials are working diligently to restore normal operations as quickly as possible. As investigations into the cause of the incident continue, further updates are expected.
