Alleged Defamation: Peter Obi Pledges to Fulfill Bail Conditions for Human Rights Lawyer, Farotimi

The ongoing defamation case involving human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi, Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has stepped forward to fulfill the stringent bail conditions set by an Ekiti Magistrate Court.

The court had granted bail to Farotimi, who is embroiled in a legal battle over allegations of defaming Afe Babalola, a prominent figure.

The bail conditions, as outlined by the court, require Farotimi to provide a N30 million bond and secure two sureties, one of whom must own a house.

Additionally, he must surrender his passport and refrain from granting media interviews until the case is resolved.

Tanko Yunusa, a former spokesperson for Obi's presidential campaign, announced this decision on Friday via his X account. He stated, "I consulted His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the leader of the Obidient Movement. As a respecter of the rule of law, due process, and order, he offered to take Dele Farotimi on the bail conditions."

Obi's intervention shows his commitment to ensuring that the legal process is respected while seeking a resolution that benefits all parties involved.

Yunusa further expressed Obi’s gratitude to the courts and everyone concerned, emphasizing that Obi desires a fair outcome for all stakeholders.
