Nigeria Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has confirmed that the airstrip license granted to Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners' Chapel, will not be revoked.
This decision comes despite demands from the House of Representatives for the withdrawal of such licenses from private entities, citing concerns over unrestricted access to Nigerian airspace.
Keyamo defended the church's right to maintain its airstrip, emphasizing that Winners' Chapel has adhered to all legal requirements and procedures necessary for the approval of their license.
He stated, "The people have not breached any terms upon which we gave them the license. If you single them out, the constitution says you should not discriminate against any Nigerian. They are following the rules."
The minister further clarified that the church made substantial financial commitments during the approval process and strictly complies with aviation regulations.
This includes the requirement for aircraft to land at international airports before proceeding to private airstrips. Keyamo remarked, "You cannot take off from any private airstrip in Nigeria and fly outside the country. This is not possible. You must first land at an international airport."
