The Abia State government has initiated survey activities for the proposed Abia International Airport in Nsulu, promising to compensate land donors in accordance with the Land Use Act.
This development comes after protests from local indigenes over the weekend, highlighting concerns about community involvement and compensation.
Chaka Chukwumerije, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, assured that "proper enumeration of lands will be done and compensations paid to those whose lands will be used for the project."
The government is committed to ensuring that affected landowners receive fair compensation, addressing the grievances raised by the donor communities.
High-level negotiations were conducted by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba, and the Special Assistant on Lands and Housing, Okorougo Aji.
These discussions involved representatives from the seven donor communities in Nsulu, aiming to foster a collaborative approach to the airport project.
Despite initial resistance from some members of Umunna Nsulu, the Chief of Staff reassured them, stating, "Anybody that felt he or she had not been carried along will be appropriately engaged.
