Agidigbo FM Founder, Oriyomi Hamzat Unconscious, Hospitalized Following Death Of 35 Children At Ibadan Festive Party [Photos]

A tragic incident recently unfolded at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, during a Christmas funfair that resulted in the deaths of 35 children. The event, which was heavily promoted by Agidigbo FM, a prominent radio station in Ibadan, was organized by Queen Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife.

The promise of cash handouts and food attracted an overwhelming crowd, leading to a deadly stampede as thousands of children and their parents struggled to gain entry.

Oriyomi Hamzat, the owner of Agidigbo FM, was present at the event and witnessed the horrific scene unfold. Overcome by shock and unable to bear the sight of children collapsing around him, Hamzat lost consciousness and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Sources from Agidigbo FM reported that Hamzat has been struggling to recover from the emotional and physical toll of the incident.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the death toll, stating that 35 children had died, with six others critically injured. In response to the tragedy, the police arrested eight individuals, including Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, who were involved in organizing the ill-fated event.

President Bola Tinubu extended his condolences to the bereaved families and ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The funfair, intended as a joyous occasion, turned into a nightmare due to the massive turnout, reportedly exceeding 5,000 children. Parents, hoping to receive the promised 5,000 naira and free food for their children, arrived as early as 5:00 AM, five hours before the event was scheduled to start. However, the venue could not accommodate the large crowd, resulting in chaos and a fatal crush when the main organizers arrived.

The community in Ibadan is reeling from the tragedy, with authorities urging parents to check local hospitals for their missing children. Medics reported that only two out of six hospitalized children survived, while others succumbed to their injuries. The Oyo State government has pledged to support the affected families and ensure a comprehensive investigation to prevent future occurrences.
