AFCON 2025Q: Super Eagles Encounter Flight Hitch in Abidjan

The Super Eagles, Nigeria's national football team, encountered a major travel disruption in Abidjan as they prepared for their crucial AFCON 2025 qualifier against Benin. On November 15, 2024, it was reported that the team faced a "flight hitch" while attempting to return to Nigeria after their match.

This incident followed a previous challenge where the team had been stranded at a local airport in Libya without food and internet access for over 16 hours, leading them to walk off the fixture due to safety concerns.

Despite these logistical setbacks, the Super Eagles remain focused on their qualifying campaign. They are currently leading Group D with 10 points from four matches.

The team had flown into Abidjan directly from their foreign bases for the match against Benin, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Following this, they are set to welcome Rwanda to Uyo in four days to conclude their qualifying journey for the 2025 AFCON.

The chartered flight intended to bring the team back to Nigeria was scheduled to depart the morning after the match. However, due to the inability of Uyo's airport to accommodate late-night flights, the return was delayed.

This series of travel issues has added an extra layer of complexity to the Super Eagles' preparations and logistics as they aim to maintain their unbeaten record on the road to the 2025 AFCON.
