Activists from the Take It Back Movement and other groups have gathered at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos to welcome Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement.
Sowore, who has been in the United States with his family, is expected to land in Nigeria on Sunday morning. His flight departed from Washington Dulles International Airport at 6:14 EDT and is scheduled to arrive in Lagos at 9:43 WAT.
This return comes amid reports of a leaked Department of State Services (DSS) memo ordering his arrest upon arrival, likely due to his involvement in the recent #EndBadGovernance protests. The directive, issued by the newly appointed DSS Director General Adeola Ajayi, has sparked significant concern among activists and supporters.
In a post on his X account, Sowore criticized the DSS for prioritizing his arrest over addressing more pressing security issues in Nigeria. "The current administration, led by Tinubu, has demonstrated an upgraded inability to effectively track and apprehend terrorism suspects, bandits, and kidnappers," he stated. He further added, "Meanwhile, the lawless @OfficialDSSNG has upgraded my status and name on their 'watchlist' for arrest upon arrival in Nigeria."
"I will go to Nigeria whenever I want to go to Nigeria, it is my country. I don't have any other country other than Nigeria," he declared. Sowore's determination to return despite the threats was evident in his interview on "The Voice of the Peoples" programme.
