Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto state, is seen pleading for urgent help from captivity. The Emir and his son were abducted in July while travelling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni, the local government headquarters.
The distressing footage, shared on X (formerly Twitter), shows the Emir's clothes stained with blood, showing the brutal conditions they are enduring. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N1 billion for their release.
In the video, the monarch describes their dire situation, stating that their lives are in danger and they are suffering in the forests where they are held.
One of the gunmen can be heard dictating to the victims what to say, further emphasizing the severity of their plight. The Emir's plea underscores the ongoing issues of terrorism and kidnapping in Nigeria, particularly in Sokoto state and draws attention to the broader security challenges facing the region.
A user on X, @UcleAnass, shared the video with a poignant caption: "Dear @Ahmedaliyuskt, this is your emir in the hands of kidnappers, His Highness the Emir of Sabon Birni local government. Imagine someone who served his state for more than forty years left to rot like this. An emir for that matter. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raajiun. This is our story in the North. #SokotoEastBleeds🩸 #EndBadGovernance🚫"
