2025 Club World Cup Draw: FIFA Confirm Places for Chelsea, Real Madrid, Man City

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is set to be a landmark event, marking the first edition under an expanded format with 32 teams. Scheduled to take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025, this tournament will serve as a prelude to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The draw for the tournament is slated to occur in Miami on December 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. EST.

FIFA has confirmed the participation of several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. These teams have secured their slots through various achievements in recent UEFA Champions League seasons.

Chelsea qualified as the winners of the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League, while Real Madrid earned their place by winning the 2021–22 and 2023–24 editions. Manchester City, the defending champions from the last tournament held in 2023, will also be part of the competition.

The tournament will feature teams from all six FIFA confederations, with a total of 32 teams divided into eight groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage. This format mirrors that of the FIFA World Cup used between 1998 and 2022, excluding a third-place play-off.

In addition to the European giants, other notable teams include Al-Hilal, Urawa Red Diamonds, Al Ain, and Ulsan Hyundai from Asia; Al Ahly, Wydad AC, Esperance de Tunis, and Mamelodi Sundowns from Africa; Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, Leon, and Pachuca from North and Central America; Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, River Plate, and Boca Juniors from South America; and Auckland City from Oceania. Inter Miami will represent the host nation, having won the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield.
