Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing critique against Governor Seyi Makinde's proposed budget for 2025, amounting to N679 billion.
The APC has labeled the budget as a "fictitious document" designed to benefit a select few within the corridors of power, rather than addressing the needs of the broader populace.
The party's Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, expressed skepticism about the governor's claims regarding the budget's inclusivity and transparency.
"The orchestrated presentation was just a ceremony aimed at fulfilling all righteousness," Sadare stated, emphasizing that relevant stakeholders were not involved in the budget's preparation.
He further challenged the governor to disclose specific projects accounting for 51% of the total budget and to clarify the timeline for implementing the recently announced N80,000 minimum wage.
Moreover, the APC questioned Governor Makinde's assertion of a 70% success rate in implementing the previous year's N515 billion budget.
They pointed to ongoing issues in the health sector, where residents face threats from diseases like Lassa fever and cholera, and public hospitals suffer from understaffing and poor conditions. "We do not know the parameters he used to score himself," Sadare remarked, highlighting the disconnect between the governor's claims and the reality on the ground.
Amidst these political tensions, the Joint Technical Committee on Security for Oyo and Ogun States has reassured residents of enhanced security measures during the upcoming Yuletide season. The committee, comprising security agency heads and advisers from both states, aims to ensure safety along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and other critical border roads.
