The Nigeria Police Command in Ebonyi State has arrested 177 individuals involved in various criminal activities throughout October 2024.
This crackdown uncovered a disturbing network engaged in organ harvesting and ritual killings.
The arrests included 162 males and 15 females, apprehended for crimes such as kidnapping, murder, robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
Police spokesperson DSP Joshua Ukandu provided details during a press conference, stating, "92 suspects among them have been charged to court, while others would be arraigned once investigations are completed."
He emphasized the command's commitment to reducing violent crime through strategic stakeholder engagement and rigorous investigative efforts.
A particularly shocking case involved four suspects accused of murdering three individuals to extract their organs for a ritual aimed at curing a cognitively impaired person.
Ukandu recounted, "Command operatives from the Anti-kidnapping unit, through a painstaking investigation and credible intelligence, arrested one Innocent Elebe and Eze Elechi; they made useful statements, which led the police to arrest Obinna Nwanguru and Oda Peter."
The police have recovered the bodies of two victims, Chikezie Idenyi and Chibu Odii, while efforts continue to locate the remains of the third victim.
