A devastating attack unfolded in the Azege settlement of Mbaya, Tombo Ward, within the Logo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, Nigeria.
The assault, attributed to suspected herdsmen, resulted in the tragic loss of at least 13 lives.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of violence that has plagued the region.
The attack occurred early on Sunday morning, around 7:00 am, as residents were preparing to attend church services. According to Benjamin Uzenda, the former Caretaker Chairman of Logo LGA, "They [the herdsmen] were armed with sophisticated weapons and immediately opened fire on residents who were preparing to attend morning church service."
The assailants not only shot at the villagers but also engaged in acts of arson, destroying farmlands and crops. Women and children were among the victims, and some bodies were reportedly mutilated after being shot.
Uzenda described the attack as "coordinated" and "planned," noting that the invaders operated for hours before fleeing the scene, evading security personnel.
