The training of 1,304 recruits at the Police Training School in Odukpani, Cross River State, marks a pivotal step in the ongoing efforts to reform the Nigerian Police Force.

This initiative involves recruits from Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States, as highlighted by Commandant ACP Gambo Erena during a visit by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Jonathan Towuru.

The training program, which began 15 weeks ago, includes "drills, liberal studies, legal studies, and modern policing techniques." These components are designed to equip recruits with the necessary skills to address contemporary challenges in law enforcement.

AIG Towuru emphasized the importance of this training as part of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s commitment to overhauling the Police Force for effective service delivery.

AIG Towuru's address to the recruits signified the dynamic nature of society and crime, urging officers to continuously improve themselves. He stressed the need for discipline and regular supervision to achieve a "mutually accountable force in line with international best practices." The recruits were also reminded to uphold human rights as outlined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the revised Police Act 2020.

The visit of Mr. Rabiu Nahala, Assistant Director of Administration, Police Trust Fund, coincided with AIG Towuru's visit. Mr. Nahala's mission was to assess and explore ways to enhance the school's facilities, reflecting a broader effort to revamp police training infrastructure and methodologies.
